Whitney Wolfe And Bumble Looking To Connect Matched Ones

After helping to create the popular dating app Tinder, Whitney Wolfe is at again with Bumble.

Wolfe’s newest dating app allows women to have more control over the whole process. Bumble creates a situation where the woman must make the first move and initiate online contact with a prospective male companion. Traditionally, men make the first move, but in an online and modern world, traditions don’t hold as much weight.

While same-sex matches can have either person initiate a chat, the more traditional heterosexual meeting can be better controlled by women.

Bumble uses Facebook in order for someone to create a user profile. The user can include photos and provide some information about themselves. A woman can send a chat message first, but a response must be given within 24 hours or else the message disappears. Users can like a match and can send photo messages as well, two things that are popular applications in today’s younger generation. The fact that women can start things has led to Bumble’s quick success.

Despite her young age, Whitney Wolfe has already made her mark on the business landscape. She was named to Business Insider’s 30 Most Important Women Under 30 in Tech in 2014. This year, she made the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, denoting 30 rising business people under the age 30.

Wolfe was born in Salt Lake City and graduated from Southern Methodist University with a degree in International Studies. At SMU, she began a business selling bamboo tote bags. She traveled Southeast Asia after her college graduation, helping many orphanages there.

Wolfe helped found Tinder in 2012 and became the vice-president of marketing there. Tinder is now the most popular dating app available, but Wolfe left Tinder after a couple of years and now is re-creating success with Bumble.
